This was the last laid back day for some time to come as the workshop begins. Also I have to preach tomorrow. Today began with a walk with the toddlers as pictured. I had to be on watch because one toddler liked to hug the back of my legs below my knees without warning. Upon sitting they piled on me like a rugby scrum. Great excitement all before breakfast.
Jesse and I headed for the grade 12 class who adopted him and he found himself filling bags of manure to fertilize the sports field which is need of repair. I met an old friend a Maasai Clergy by the name of David. We stood a talked for a good hour. The connection we have had since the beginning four years ago is a bit unnerving for its depth of trust and genuine mutual affection. While we come from vastly different worlds we have developed and unusual common spiritulaity and world view. How that can be is part of the divine mystery which appears regularly every day at MCF.
The sun was very hot by 1100. I rested a bit. After lunch, Jesse and I set off to find his classmates who were nowhere to be found. However the Karate Team found us through two grade 8 girls, Esther and Terry (sister Rhoda).
Jesse disappeared after the karate lesson and I spotted him teaching American football to grade 8 boys, tossing his football around with grade 12 boys, and swinging from a great tree. I was called to a small group of grade 11/12 and they were keen to understand colonization in Canada and how different it was in Canada than Kenya. This was a typical informal gathering where the students present showed a love of learning and curiosity and soaked up information like a sponge. They appear to hang on every word of the explanations and stories. What a great encounter that is repeated often.
After supper we joined the evening devotions where I was asked to read a lesson. I talked about humour as a great gift that can get us through difficult times and promotes positive relationships. Jesse stayed and experienced the same, more peer to peer level, encounters of curiosity, laughter and love of learning. And that's all folks!
