My quarters in Yatta are sparce, spacious, and clean. Ruth and her family, who live next door brings me my meals and helps me organize mealtimes, accordoing to my activities. She and her family are kind, a great cook, and greets me with a heart melting smile and good morning!
Another standard teaching day with more data entry in the evening. I had three lectures today, and met with some senior faculty people. They ae all asking me about the elephant living next door to Canada, the cranky one with the long red tie. Much like we feel in Canada, the reactions range from outright contempt to incredulity. The level of outrage being expressed even here in MCF that will likely feel little impact from the geopolitical storms of USA/Canada, is remarkable. As they comment about the chaos unleashed these past couple of weeks, one realizes how small is our world and how interconnected as people we in fact are. It occurs to me that nothing but ill wind/suffering will come from the attempts by the contemptible angry elephant with the long red tie to manage isolationism/dominance in a world that in reality has more solidarity than not. That chaos will at the end of the day be defeated by the common humanity in which we actually live.
