A separate assembly from the Highschool for these grades in this building of classrooms. I started early with the Highschool morning assembly complete with morning report. Breakfast and fare thee well to the USA visitors. I went looking for narrative topics and confirmation about tracking the spiritual strengths of the now grade 9 class.
Lunch I took with Ndondo and Kennedy which was productive for me in terms of the plans for the Mully Model Book and the Mully Model Course Workbook (essentially the master lesson plan for the course for Mully Model).
Took a nap and went to survey the grade 9s. I just got started and the students seated near the door screeched and jumped up on their desks, some screamed and ran out of the door. Everyone was scrambling to get out the door or up on their desks because those seated near the door had spotted a small green snake between the door and the door jamb. I ran too! I was lucky because I had not yet handed out the papers.
Students seemed to know what to do and they looked out for me. I did not see any snake and it apparently slithered away behind the siding and the wood frame of the door. The survey has been postponed until tomorrow. Everyone settled down, we had a chance for pictures and questions. For some reason students wanted to know if Canadians ate snake like the Chinese.
In the meantime as pictured there was a concerted effort to see if the snake had taken up residence in behind the mabati (corrugated iron sheet corner)
After the snake alarm I returned to my quarters to see the whole school lining up to receive cake from Saturday's Party.
I had wondered about the cake ration since the students kept asking me when they would get their piece of cake. I was reminded again how much joy, gratitude, and pleasure these youth derive from getting a simple and tiny piece of cake. It is also a signal that most of us in Canada have won the lottery of birthplace. Living alongside these joyful and grateful hearts, it is very clear to me that it is in our best interests to figure out the best and most effective ways to distribute justly all that we have in a global society if for no other reason but to preserve what we have gained by our hard work and values in Canada. It is my way to comprehend the theological lesson to the rich young man about selling all that he has to follow the great teachings about a just society (eternal life = will of God on earth as it is in heaven) for our planet.
The day ended as it began in an assembly. This one I enjoyed engaging and watching the presentations of the very young under grade 4 students. I followed their singing to their space having heard it from my quarters. Noah's Ark was the topic I picked for dramatization. Closed with a sleep well good night prayer and blessings. They thanked me with the rainfall applause. One drop, then two, then three, then hundreds at the same time. Touched me to the core!
